R96 tops first SHHC YouTube Chart as Melroze takes SoundCloud #1
The first published SHHC charts put R96 at the top of YouTube and Melroze at #1 on SoundCloud, with several artists making strong appearances across both platforms.
Scottish Hip Hop Charts published its first YouTube and SoundCloud Top 10s on Thursday 24 September, creating the first weekly snapshot in what will now become an ongoing chart history.
R96 takes the first YouTube #1 with 365 after gaining 3,375 measured views during the chart period.
On SoundCloud, Melroze takes #1 with Northend after 2,677 measured plays.
Those are the two headline results, but the first charts already throw up a few other interesting stories.
R96 starts with a big week across both platforms
365 leads the YouTube chart, but R96 also has a heavy presence on SoundCloud.
Memory Lane lands at #2, Godfather at #3, Tangled at #6 and Paper Plane at #10.
Godfather also appears at #7 on YouTube, meaning R96 has entries on both charts in the opening week.
Because YouTube and SoundCloud are measured separately, those positions are independent of each other. A track can perform differently on each platform depending on where people are actually listening.
AjForty7 and Triple01s fill out the top of YouTube
AjForty7's 36 opens at #2 on YouTube with 1,782 measured views.
Triple01s then take both #3 and #4, with Robbing Hood gaining 556 views and LIVID gaining 502.
Further down the Top 10, Shogun also lands two entries: ONE TAKE #FNF at #9 and Right to Roam Freestyle #001 at #10.
Oakzy B & Tiny land at #5 on both charts
One of the neatest results from the first week is Kips Bouncy Sesh by Oakzy B & Tiny.
The track lands at exactly #5 on both YouTube and SoundCloud, despite the two charts being calculated independently.
They also take #4 on SoundCloud with I'll Try.
JAAD appears across both platforms too, with Sausage Roll at #7 on SoundCloud, Soul Tied featuring Kállay Saunders at #6 on YouTube and Jaad The Entertainer at #8 on YouTube.

Every entry is marked NEW this week because this is the first published chart.
That changes from the next edition.
Once there is a previous chart to compare against, SHHC can start recording climbs, falls, holds, re-entries and continuing chart runs alongside the measured weekly movement.
It is also worth being clear about what these numbers mean.
The charts measure movement during the chart period, not lifetime popularity and not SHHC's opinion of the music. SoundCloud and YouTube remain separate because their public counters measure activity on different platforms.
This first week gives us the starting point.
From next Thursday, we start finding out what moves.
